How to Use WinRar

How to Use WinRar

This will show the basics for anyone new to winrar, how to extract a file, archive (rar) a file and way to check large files before you download all the parts.

Extracting a file

This is the easy way to extract (unrar) a file.

1- Right click on the rar file and it will open a menu box, there will be 3 choices, ignore
the first one which will leave "extract here" and extract to "name of file"

Either one will work but extract to is better just because it will make a new folder and put all the files in it (program, crack, readme and NFO files etc.). Extract here works too but if whoever uploaded it didnt put everything in a folder before raring it the parts of will not be together.

2- Click extract to and your done, just open the new folder and it's all in there.

Archiving a file

Archiving or raring a file is not that hard and winrar has a wizzard to help you but it's easy without it too.

1-Right click on the file you want to rar, then click add to archive.

This will open a new dialog box where you set everything up. Change the file name if your going to upload to rapidshare, they will delete the file if they see it's copywrited (movie, application etc.), sochange it to something that dosent discribe it (Ironman.rar to ima.rar)

2- Click recovery record, choose best for quality and if the file is larger then 100mb you need to split the file, just enter 100mb and it will do the rest.

3- Now click advanced then set password, enter your password and click encrypt file names (even if your not password protecting the file do this, this keeps file hosts from seeing whats in the rar file).

4- Click OK and your done, see not that hard is it.

Winrar trick

Some people know about this, some don't but it someting good to know.

Have you ever downloaded a movie and found the quality realy bad and if you are a free user it took a long time to find out it's bad, well there is a way to check the quality before you download all the parts.

1- Download part 1 of the movie, right click on it and pick the first choice "extract file" this will open a dialog box, leave everything as it is but click save broken files, then click OK. This will extract just the one part and let you view it to see how it is, if its ok just download the rest and extract them starting with part 1. You can delete the AVI file you checked because you dont need it.

This will also solve most CCR errors
Hope this helps anyone new to winrar, the ways I discribed are much easier then using the winrar console which tends to confuse people.
